It is a side-scrolling platform video game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The player plays as the Ghosts' n Goblins enemy Firebrand, who is a winged fire demon. He is on a quest to find six Demon Crest, i.e., Earth, Fire, Water, Wind, Time, and Heaven. These stones give ultimate power to the owner to own the demon's world. Firebrand has just won a fight against a demon dragon in the intro. He is tired, suddenly the demon Phalanx attacks and shatters the Crest into five pieces. Phalanx successfully conquers the demon world and banishes Firebrand to face the demon dragon's zombie remains. Firebrand escapes the imprisonment and goes out to find the shards of the firecrest. The player can tackle levels in any order, gain power-ups, abilities and find secret areas. The game encourages exploration, and every level has few hidden rooms throughout. Stages in Demon's Crest have levels with multiple paths; each has its boss. The primary abilities of the Firebrand are fire breath, claws, and wings. He can breathe fire, jump and hover in mid-air, and grab onto walls. This is a terrific game with the right amount of depth.
The story revolves around the six Crests, which, when combined, gives the holder infinite power to rule over the realms. The demons have fought for a very long time for the Crests. But Firebrand finally gets possession of them. After the battle, taking advantage of his weakness, Phalanx attacks Firebrand, and the Crest gets shattered in the scuffle. Phalanx became the ruler of the Demon Kingdom and imprisoned Firebrand. Firebrand escapes and sets out to find the Crests and take revenge from Phalanx. Ultimately Firebrand challenges Phalanx. The endings depend on the choice of the player. One conclusion is that the Firebrand transforms into a beast, defeats Phalanx, and throws the Crest off the cliff. Another ending is where Phalanx sealed himself inside the Crest, and Firebrand secures all the Crest; the worst finish is where Firebrand loses, and Phalanx becomes the ruler of the demon kingdom.
