Mother 2, also known as EarthBound, released in Japan in 1994, is a role-playing video game that comes under the second entry in the Mother series. HAL Laboratory and Ape Inc. developed the game, and Nintendo published it for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
The game takes place post the events in Mother and during the era 199X in a fictional country of Eagleland. Ness, the main character, and his group Jeff, Paula, and Poo, explore the world to gather melodies from eight Sanctuaries to capture the universal cosmic destroyer named Giygas, also known as Giegue or Gyiyg.
The player controls a group of characters who can travel through the two-dimensional world in the game that are of caves, dungeons, cities, and villages, along with battling enemies. If the player gets enough experience points, their character's level will increase. This pseudo-randomly improves the character's qualities, such as maximum hit points, offense, defense, and psychic points of each character.
Moreover, as Ness and his friends grow more robust, battles with weaker enemies are ultimately won automatically, abandoning the battle order, and weaker monsters will start to flee from Ness and his friends instead of chasing them. Funny and exciting, right? To make the game more realistic, the players receive currency as they win battles, and they can withdraw it from ATMs.
