The One surveyed the arcade edition of Caveman Ninja in 1991, calling it "A cutesy 'unsteady anxious' game which uses some neat comic touches to defeat the predicted gameplay," suggesting it as being "worth a try." Super Play praised the SNES version for its brilliant graphics. British television program Bad Influence gave the SNES variant a score of 4 out of 5.

Gameplay

The game stars a blue-haired Mac and the green-haired Joe, cavemen who fight through various ancient levels using weapons like boomerangs, bones, rocks, power, stone wheels, and clubs. The game's goal is to save a group of women captured by a rival clan of cavemen. The play highlights a health framework by which the player loses heath within a time frame, apart from boss fights. A dual-mode is available, and in specific variants, both characters can harm one another.
