It is a kart racing video game released in 1999 for the Sony PlayStation. It's the fourth part of the Crash Bandicoot game franchise. The game's story focuses on Crash Bandicoot, Doctor Neo, and other characters who have to race against Nitrous Oxide to protect the world. There are fifteen characters, and the player takes control of one of them. They include Crash, Dr, Neo Cortex, Tiny Tiger, Pura, Coco Bandicoot, Polar, Dingodile, N. Gin, and many bonus characters. There are different modes for the player to choose from. There is an Arcade Single-mode where the player can participate in one of the four cups; versus mode lets up to four players race against each other; Battle mode enables different types of matchups. The aim is to defeat the alien Nitrous Oxide because it also wins the planet if it wins the race. So it's up to Crash, Cortex, Polar, or anyone other racers to defeat the NO2.
An extra-terrestrial named Nitrous Oxide visits the earth and claims that he is the fastest racer in the universe. He challenges the world to a game, with a bet that if the earth's race wins, he will leave there and then, but if he triumphs, then the world gets under his control. In response, the character races him in a one-on-one match; after his defeat, he leaves the planet but promises to be back again soon. After collecting all the time relics', oxide races the player. He loses and vows to come back. The end credits show that the Nitrous Oxide returns to his home planet and isolates himself from society. After going through years of therapy, he takes up a unicycle but gets into a horrible accident!!
To play this game, you will require a PlayStation emulator. The first emulator that comes to mind for PSX is a superb all-in-one emulator called RetroArch. It is a multi-platform, open-source emulator available for Windows, Linux, and Android. It comes with features like NetPlay support, better refresh rates, support for custom shaders and resolutions, and save states. The next emulator in line is the PCSX-Reloaded. It supports Windows and Linux and has a better configuration, easy installation capability, and translation support. If you are a fan of speedrunning the game, then BizHawk is the one. It allows you to manipulate the frame rates and take advantage of various save states to get the perfect play-through.
