The player takes the protagonists' role collects the combined forces of 108 heroes, and attempts to defeat The One King, who wants to control the world. The game revolves around the protagonist's and his party, who wants to spoil the One King plan.
The unnamed hero lives in the small village of Citro. He and his friends are members of the Citro Defence Force and guard the town from monsters. They find a local valley that has turned into a lush forest. While investigating, the group discovers a mysterious book that shows them a vision of a warrior fighting an unseen enemy. The group learns about a mysterious One King is behind the appearance of the forest, and the group has to battle against him to save the world. There is a total of 108 playable characters; most of them get recruited through side quests. Players move their character with the help of a DS directional pad or the stylus wand. To advance through the game, the player has to interact with non-player characters to progress the story. In the gameplay, the player encounters enemies in every few steps in turn-based combat. The player's party can have up to four characters at a time. When a player defeats the enemies, they get experience points that increase the team member's levels. With DS's Wi-Fi function, two players can connect with their game card and exchange characters and items.
