Metacritic has stated that this version of the game has an improved gameplay and combat system compared to Originals Spectrobes. The lack of viable camera control is also one reason why some critics criticize this game. Critics also appreciated the graphics of the game, as well as battle system improvements.
Rallen and Jeena are two main gameplay characters in the game where Rallen is a hot-headed police officer, and Jeena is his partner who is much less hot-headed and specializes in the technological aspect. A friend named Aldous, which is quite a suspicious figure, is abducted by Maja, a Krawl superior, which is also one of high Krawl. Alongside in the Nanairo system, numerous mysterious portals are popping up, giving access to Rallen and Jeena and Krawl to different star systems. Rallen and Jeena are required to save their friend and defeat the four high Krawl.
There are floating, round bad guys known as Krawl Dust, which you would witness and come in contact with when you play as Rallen and run around. To defeat Krawl, Dust Rallen can use weapons such as blaster, sword, or glove, after which you earn some points based on experience. The dust protects Krawl vortexes and harms you once you are halfway through the dust. The more fulfilling part of the gameplay is the one where you fight with the Spectrobes. As there are two gameplay characters in this game, there are also two Spectrobes controlled by each player. You can also switch between the Spectrobes at any moment you like.
