Released in the year 1997, Quake II is a first-person shooter video game that is not a direct sequel to the game Quake and comes under the Quake video games series. Id Software developed the game, and Activision published it for the Nintendo 64. Moreover, the game's storyline continues in its developments and Quake 4.
The game takes place in a science fiction environment. The player assumes the character of a Marine named Bitterman becoming part of "Operation Alien Overlord", which is a desperate effort to prevent an alien attack of Earth by beginning a counterattack against the home planet of hostile Strogg civilization. Moreover, most of the other soldiers get killed or captured as soon as they advance the planned landing zone.
Here, the player shoots the enemies from the character's perspective. The gameplay is very similar to that highlighted in Quake, in terms of movement and controls. Even though the player's movement speed has slowed down, the player now owns the crouch's powers. The game also retains four of the eight weapons from the first game such as the Rocket Launcher, Grenade Launcher, Super Shotgun, and the Shotgun. The game also introduced six new weapons such as Hyperblaster, Railgun, Machine Gun, Chain Gun, BFG10K, the Blaster.
To play Quake II, you need to download and install a Nintendo 64 emulator on the device you will use to play the game. Some of the all-time best Nintendo 64 emulators that you can download for Microsoft Windows are RetroArch, CEN64, Glide64, and Mupen. The emulators that are best for MAC users are Mupen64Plus, Project64, OpenEmu, and Sixtyforce.
