The game is a side-scrolling video game based on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing game and published in 1994. The game consists of some RPG elements for one-to-four players and is the first arcade game based on the official Dungeons and Dragons world. There are four characters from which the players can choose; Wizard, Fighter, Cleric, and Dwarf. Each character has abilities similar to the D&D world.
The levels contain enemies from the D&D world, including Kobolds, Skeletons, Gnolls, and Ogres. At the end of each stage, there is a boss fight, and as the level progresses, bosses become more prominent and more fearsome. As the characters move forward, they gain EP, i.e., experience points. Four characters can play simultaneously, and this makes the game a lot of fun.
In the Republic of Darokin in Mystara number of monsters and their attacks rise, and they try to siege the city. A group of four adventurers comes forward to rescue several areas. Lord Corwyn Linton sent them to investigate the attacks. Arch Lich Deimos is the mastermind behind the attacks. Ultimately the four heroes reach the Deimos' Tower of Doom and destroy him.
The game's bosses include a large black dragon, a troll, the dreaded shadow Elf, a beholder, and the final boss Deimos. The paths branch out to different areas, and the players have to choose to go on their preferred way.
The gameplay is technical as compared to other beat 'em up games. Apart from the basic jumping and attacks, it includes blocking the attacks, dashing attacks, turning attacks, crouching, and dodging. It also needs the use of cautious tactics, as most enemies and heroes most of the time have the same abilities and can out-range them.
You can play this game with the use of a MAME emulator. MAME stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. This emulator allows the users to play a game that is considered vintage on their choice of device. It supports many arcade games and is also capable of playing classic game consoles. If you have Windows, you can use MAME 0.2.0b; for an android, the MAME4droid is the best choice, and for PSP, MAME4all is the emulator you should go for.
